Kagan: How ChatGPT, ChatBot and AI will change your industry

How do you know if a new technology is taking off? One way is to count how many news stories are on that topic. With regards to ChatGPT, it’s off the charts. There is so much noise. This is a major challenge for every VP of Marketing who wants to talk about how they will use this new technology. So, how do companies turn up the volume on their messaging? How do they get heard above all the noise?

Swiss bank USB just said that ChatGPT has become the fastest growing consumer app of all time.

In the world of Artificial Intelligence, this new ChatBot, which has only been around since November, has already hit 100 million users in January and continues its rapid growth.

ChatGPT is fastest growing AI ChatBot of all time

One important question is what does this mean for AI and for our society going forward?

In fact, there are many important questions which need answering, like will this rapid growth rate continue? Will ChatGPT remain the leader in this new segment, or will it be replaced? What new competitors will emerge to challenge OpenAI? Who will lead in this space short-term and long-term? What will the changing AI industry look like in the next few years?

I believe this rapid rate of growth will help OpenAI remain the leader in this new ChatGPT space, at least for a while. However, we should always expect continual change in this space going forward.

We have seen this before. Remember how Google won the search engine battle from Yahoo and Netscape and took the lead? In fact, AI may threaten the traditional search engine space.

Expect competitive battle between OpenAI ChatGPT and Google ChatBot

That being said, I fully expect to see Google in this space as well.

That is why I fully expect a new, competitive ChatBot battle to begin shortly. Expect new competition to enter the space. The next decade will be consumed with this competitive battle.

That means this new space in AI will become a hot new space for investors, consumers, business customers, B2B players, workers, regulators and more.

AI will continue to grow and has the potential to change everything in a short period of time. Not unlike the way the Apple iPhone and Google Android smartphones changed the world in only the last fifteen years.

While we do not have all the questions and answers yet, it is becoming clear that AI will continue to rapidly advance going forward.

That means as of today, ChatGPT is the new horse to catch in this race.

ChatBot will compete for wireless dominance with ChatGPT and others

It will not only impact, but transform every company in every industry, including wireless. Think about it. With every device and service using AI, how else will the user be able to chat except through wireless.

That is a huge new growth opportunity in the 5G and 6G wireless space going forward.

Today, we use Apple Siri or Google Assistant as a voice guided assistant. Going forward, ChatBot technology in the AI space will continue to advance and make the smartphone, tablet and wireless technology better, faster and stronger.

The opportunity is huge. That’s why I fully expect to see both ChatGPT and other new ChatBot technology enter this space battling for dominance.

ChatGPT AI is a super-app changing the way we do everything

As a consumer technology, ChatGPT from Open AI can be considered a super-app. Sort of the way the iPhone and Android were super smartphones winning the competitive battle against past leaders like Blackberry and Palm.

That being said, growth will not only come from advances in this technology itself, but how it will be included in other apps, software, products and services going forward.

That means everything we use on a daily basis will be connected to AI using ChatGPT wirelessly or through wireline services.

There is another side to this exciting coin. As this new technology rapidly advances, we will also continue to discover issues that need to be dealt with.

The dark side of the coin for AI, ChatGPT, ChatBot

A few recent examples include the question about how a professor can determine whether a college student report was written by the student or created by new ChatGPT AI technology?

OpenAI, which created this ChatGPT will most likely write another program to read and grade the paper and using AI, and also determine if the writer was human.

Another example is while ChatGPT was originally made available to users for free, there is now a paid version as well. Open AI says this new version is faster and more accurate. I fully expect this space it to continue to change going forward.

ChatBot space will continue rapid growth with ChatGPT and others

Microsoft, seeing the value in ChatGPT has also become an early investor to OpenAI.  They are not only helping financially to continue to develop this new technology, but they will also be using ChatGPT in their own services like Teams messaging. That will raise the stakes in the conferencing space.

I expect they may continue to invest with competitors as well since this is a very young space.

Companies already use ChatBots, AI and Machine Learning or ML to handle current customer service requests. This will continue and accelerate.

Others use this technology in their marketing. I am sure you have received a sales call only to find out after you are in the middle of a conversation that you were talking to a machine, not a live human being.

While this aggravates people, going forward and using ChatGPT, as the technology continues to improve the average user may not be able to easily tell whether they are talking to a person or a machine.

Facebook says today there are more than 300,000 bots on their Messenger service.

How ChatGPT AI is changing companies and industries

There are so many examples, but the simple fact is this is a rapidly growing space. Remember, in this kind of environment, some new technology will soar, while others will not.

We will use this new ChatBot technology to do ordinary things like talk to customer care, order take-out food delivery on GrubHub, book travel reservations like air, hotel and car service and so much more.

Grocers will let customers walk the aisles, put items in the bag inside their cart, then walk out of the store, bypassing the registers. Everything will be scanned, speeding up the entire process.

Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa Johns and others will let the user shop, purchase and arrange for takeout or delivery.

Hospitals and the entire medical industry will use ChatGPT to do more every day including check-in, scanning insurance card, update everything about the patient, all using ChatBots.

In fact, as each day passes, exciting new ideas keep popping up. You remember what it was like when Uber and Lyft popped up on our radar. How they transformed the taxi and limousine space.

The same thing is happening with AI. In fact, there are so many ways this new ChatBot technology will change and enhance our lives going forward. We haven’t even scratched the surface yet.

Early adopters of ChatGPT and AI are initial winners

Artificial Intelligence will continue to advance the way we do everything.

The winners initially will be the early adopters. Businesses with the foresight on changing and improving what they do in their industry. These companies will have the competitive advantage for a while.

However, quicker than we are used to, this competitive advantage will transform simply into a new cost of doing business. Everyone will jump onboard.

The early players will write the map that all competitors will follow going forward.

AI Analysts, influencers and media will be very busy with ChatGPT

We are entering a very exciting and fast changing time with AI, ChatBot and ChatGPT.

Because everyone wants to be first and blaze these new trails, marketing executives at companies with these new ideas know they need to punch their way over the noise level to be seen and heard.

Going forward, I will be sharing stories of interesting companies in this emerging space. As I learn about new ideas and changes in the way we do everything, I will talk about them with you.

Yes, this looks like the very early stages of what may become a real growth opportunity for investors, companies and more for many years to come
