WASHINGTON-Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, director general of the World Health Organization, said she would be cautious about letting children use mobile phones for hours everyday because not enough is known about the potential health effects.
Brundtland made the remarks to reporters yesterday in Oslo, Norway, where she was attending a global conference on cancer. Asked whether technology in general is safe, Brundtland said people have to be careful to be sure that technology is being used safely.
Melinda Henry, a spokeswoman for the WHO, told RCR Wireless News that Brundtland confirmed to reporters that she has a sign on her door prohibiting cell-phone use in her office because radio-frequency radiation energy gives her a headache.
