Pakistan awards two new mobile licenses

LAHORE, Pakistan-Space Telecom and Telenor will pay $291 million each for GSM licenses in Pakistan. The new licensees will join Pakistan’s four existing mobile operators.

The country has a total of about 3 million mobile users.

Half of the license fees are due in the first year, and the remainder will be paid over 10 years.

Space Telecom is a consortium of companies including Syria’s GSM operator Syriatel.
