Fresh on the heels of closing the Helio L.L.C acquisition, Virgin Mobile USA Inc. has named a new chief information and technology officer.

Daniel Acton steps into the role to manage present Virgin Mobile USA I.T. and product development operations. The mobile virtual network operator said Acton be responsible for leading the company’s evolution in information technology as it expands its information operations through outsourcing agreement with IBM and integration of Helio’s I.T. operations. Acting as a technology liaison to the telecommunications industry, Acton will lead the new postpaid engineering, MIS, financial systems operation and incoming strategic partnership relationships.

“Dan plays a critical role in ensuring that I.T. operations and infrastructure functionality are at the optimum level, balancing innovation and costs. He has a proven track record as an effective manager paired with many years of experience in the information and technology industry. We look forward to leveraging his insights,” said David Messenger, chief administrative and corporate development officer, Virgin Mobile USA.

Acton’s previously worked for General Electric, Lockheed Martin, Unisys, Corning and most recently IBM, where he was a partner in managing large, complex programs for global business services. Acton also served as operating executive of various fiber optic engineering firms.
