DATARADIO PRODUCT USED BY NATIONAL CRIME CENTER

ATLANTA – Dataradio Corp. will provide its Vehicular Information Solutions products for the National Crime Information Center’s modernization plans.

The NCIC data system provides the nation’s 74,000 law enforcement agencies with up-to-the-minute, 24-hour information on stolen property, fugitives, criminal history, missing persons and other recorded facts.

It is operated and funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, which is undertaking the multi-million dollar, long-term upgrade of the 27-year-old system.

Dataradio will provide NCIC’s new turbo mobile radio modems and the base station datalink controllers. A mobile computing system is a key component to the upgrade, providing officers with in-vehicle access to mug shots, fingerprints, data and information processing.

Installation begins later this year as part of a pilot phase, with 12,000 Justice vehicles equipped, and continue through 1998. Federal funds may then be used to equip state and local law enforcement vehicles with the system, the company stated.
