Grayson Electronics Division of Allen Telecom Group Inc., introduced the Cellscope 2000, a real-time cellular radio system monitor that allows cellular service providers to field test their cellular system, monitor call traffic, solve network and toll fraud problems, test subscriber equipment and gauge marketing needs. Cellscope 2000 is software driven and works with the cellular service providers’ personal computer and an antenna. The application module is compatible with Advanced Mobile Phone Service, Narrowband AMPS, Extended Total Access Communications Systems channels and all Time Division Multiple Access control channels. There are presently two versions of the antenna, one for Nokia Corp.’s 101/121 portable and the other is a replacement antenna for L.M. Ericsson CT700 series cellular phones. NEC America Inc. has introduced two smaller and lighter handheld cellular phones in their TalkTime series, the TalkTime Exec 700 and TalkTime Exec 701. Both weigh slightly more than eight ounces and measure 2 inches by 1.2 inches by 6.3 inches, offering 135 minutes of continuous talk, or 36 hours of standby time. Some available features include automatic answering, 99 speed-dial memory locations, memory linking, user-changeable locking capabilities, last-number redial and more. The phones come with a desktop charger, rechargeable nickel cadmium battery and retractable locking antenna. DSC Communications Corp. and Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group introduced a small mobile switch to the EMX2500 family of products, which offers features previously available only in its larger models. The Electronic Mobile Exchange 2500-Small provides advanced functions such as intelligent network services and access to digital technology and features. This new switch will replace the EMX100+ in cellular applications with more than 5,000 subscribers and suffice as an alternative switch for fast-growing markets with fewer than 5,000 subscribers. Hark Electronic Systems Inc. has introduced several new products. “Velocity” is the company’s new wireless communications platform, consisting of voice mail, alpha transcription, alpha entry, Telocator Network Paging Protocol, or TNPP, routing and auto attendant. Encoding and facsimile options also will become available, the company said. Hark’s new, full-featured voice mail system has 20 hours of storage and interfaces 4 analog ports, which can be used for taking and retrieving messages, as well as dialing out to a pager number for notification. Users the option for an 8 port system. The company also announced its PC Tap Controller, an industrial personal computer-based alphanumeric concentrator, which can connect 48 telephone lines to a high speed computer port on many paging terminals. The input ports can operate at high baud rates including 38,400 baud. Message lengths can be controlled on a per port or per subscriber basis and statistics and real-time monitoring gives the system manager detailed performance information.
