VANGUARD AND MOTORLA PLAN TO MARKET INREACH

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Vanguard Cellular Systems Inc. and Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group will market Motorola’s new INReach wireless communication system to Vanguard’s customers in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Florida, Maine and West Virginia.

Vanguard will market INReach as a cost-effective, high performance personal communications services offering for mid-size to large industrial and commercial businesses with mobile employees, such as hospitals, convention centers, hotels and resorts.

The INReach system allows an employee or visitor to use a cellular phone as a desk phone extension or in place of a desk phone. INReach uses a centralized radio architecture and interconnects directly with any private branch exchange or Centrex system. Calls are charged via the regular landline system rather than through the cellular operator.

“Giving our customers total accessibility anytime they need it, anywhere they happen to be, is the true benefit of PCS,” said John LeBoeuf, director of advanced technology sales for Vanguard.

More than 2,000 subscribers and up to 119 voice channels can be supported on INReach. The system is cost effective to deploy and allows operators to expand their systems by adding voice channels to a centralized location, Motorola said.

The wireless radio system allows operators to offer voice, fax and data as well as PBX features including call transfer, forwarding and call waiting, as well as advanced services such as four-digit dialing.
