ONEONTA, Ala.-Cellular and landline telephone service has been deployed on a single switch in Oneonta, Ala., by AT&T Network Systems, the Oneonta Telephone Co. and North Alabama Cellular.
The new cellular system has five cell sites and was “grown in” to the live landline switch, using an AT&T 5ESS-2000 Compact Digital Exchange. About 6,500 customers are being served through this unique switching application, which AT&T said is the first of its kind.
Landline customers now have advanced features such as caller identification and call return; cellular customers have digital Time Division Multiple Access service, including voice mail notification and caller identification.
