Stanilite Electronics Pty Ltd. said it has signed a contract to deliver cellular infrastructure to Compania de Telefonos del Interior S.A., the Argentine cellular operator. Stanilite will design, manufacture and supply a turnkey system to cover more than 400 sites in Argentina. Initially, Sydney, Australia-based Stanilite will install 34 mobile switching centers, 297 smart cell switch remote base stations and upgrade 92 existing switches. Stanilite previously supplied products and services to CTI valued at $20 million.

Ericsson Private Radio Systems said it will provide a trunked radio system to the Brazilian army for its voice and data wireless operations in Rio de Janeiro. Ericsson’s Enhanced Digital Access Communications System is set to be operating by the end of September. Ericsson said this contract is its first EDACs public-safety system in Brazil.

GTE Airfone completed construction of a digital ground network in Mexico, bringing advanced airborne communications services to airline passengers flying to and from Mexico. Delta, United and Aeromexico are the only carriers that offer Advanced Digital Airfone Service from GTE. The ground network consists of 18 digital network stations located throughout Mexico and a telephone switching office that enables passengers to use Airfone service on flights from the United States to Mexico. Calls from the planes are sent via the nearest ground station to the telephone switching center and then to the public telephone network. Aerocomunicaciones S.A. de C.V., a joint venture between GTE Airfone and Telefones de Mexico S.A. de C. V., constructed and will operate the network.

Rogers Cantel Inc. said it signed a four-year agreement with Cincinnati Bell Information Systems to use the company’s Cellware customer care and billing solution. The agreement, expected to generate at least $36 million in revenues for CBIS, is an extension of the existing cellular billing system relationship established with Cantel in 1986.

Allen Telecom Group said it has signed supply contracts valued at more than $7 million with Guangdong Mobile Communication Corp. to install base station antenna systems throughout the carrier’s network, serving the Guangdong province in Southern China. ATG said the antenna systems will be important because the carrier intends to provide Global System for Mobile service to an estimated 400,000 subscribers.

CellStar Corp. will begin distributing cellular telephone and accessories into India under a new distribution agreement with Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Subscriber Group. CellStar will sell its cellular products in India through HCL CellStar Ltd., an equally owned venture between CellStar and HCL Ltd., a publicly held Indian manufacturer and distributor of electronic office automation, communications and computer products. CellStar noted the agreement expands the company’s presence in the Asia-Pacific region. CellStar also distributes Motorola products in the People’s Republic of China and Taiwan.
