PriCellular Corp. has appointed Mary Tavernini as director of sales and marketing for Cellular One of the upper peninsula of Michigan. She formerly worked for BellSouth Cellular Corp. in Milwaukee as manager of major accounts. Tavernini will help PriCellular grow its upper Midwest cluster, the company said.
U S West Inc. announced several leadership changes. Dick Callahan, president and chief executive officer of U S West International, announced his retirement. Gary Ames, who served as president and CEO of U S West Communications Group, will replace Callahan as president and CEO of U S West International. Sol Trujillo will serve as president and CEO of the Communications Group; he had served as president and CEO of U S West Marketing Resources Group.
Hutton Communications Inc. of Dallas has named two new vice presidents. Marty Eichenberger is vice president and general manager for Hutton in Seattle and Steve Schreivogel is vice president and general manager of Hutton in Denver. Hutton distributes wireless communications equipment, solar electric and power system products.
Geotek Communications Inc. has named Ken May the director of Geotek’s Florida operations. He will be responsible for sales and product distribution in the state’s four major markets. May previously worked as a general manager for Nextel Communications Inc., directing the build out of networks in central California and northern Nevada. Prior to his employment with Nextel, May was director of sales at Los Angeles Cellular Telephone Co. He also has served as New York area sales and operations manager for GTE Mobile Communications.
Ericsson Inc. has named Bjorn Nordwall director of Wireless Data Terminals for the company’s wireless data and paging systems organization, Ericsson Radio Systems. Formerly, Nordwall was president of New England Software Inc. in Greenwich, Conn. At Ericsson, Nordwall will oversee development and marketing of handheld, vehicular and fixed terminals that work with the Mobitex mobile data network and will guide the sales and product management teams for wireless modems. The modems connect portable computing devices to Mobitex mobile data networks in the United States and Canada.
AirTouch Communications Inc. Chief Executive Officer Sam Ginn announced Arun Sarin, president and CEO of AirTouch International, has been elected to the company’s board of directors. Sarin will continue duties under his current position. Both Sarin and Lee Cox, president of domestic wireless businesses for AirTouch, now serve as vice chairmen of the board.

A+ Communications Inc. named Christie Hurlock vice president of its telemessaging division. Hurlock previously served as general manager of the company’s mobile communications division. She has worked for A+ for 10 years. The telemessaging division operates 16 centers in six states. A call to a telemessaging center results in a message being sent to a cellular phone, a pager, a fax machine, voice-mail box or computer.
