PLANO, Texas-ProNet Inc. said depreciation and amortization expenses associated with eight acquisitions since last March are related to its net loss of $335,000, or 5 cents per share, for the six month period ended June 30. The company’s net income for the comparable period last year totaled $455,000, or 11 cents per share.
For the last quarter, net loss was $400,000, or 6 cents per share, compared with $258,000, or 6 cents per share, net income second quarter 1994.
Pagers in service totaled 636,701 June 30, compared with 235,903 the same time last year. In July, the company added an additional 134,500 units through acquisitions of three paging operations.
Century Telephone votes to award cash dividend
MONROE, La.-Century Telephone Enterprise Inc. said its board of directors has voted to declare a quarterly, cash dividend of 8.25 cents per share payable Sept. 15 to shareholders of record Sept. 1.
Century reported $26.2 million, or 45 cents per share, net income for the second quarter ended June 30, a 21.8 percent increase from $21.5 million, or 40 cents per share, recorded in second quarter 1994. Consolidated revenues reached $149.7 million for the quarter, a 12.7 percent increase from $132.9 million the same period last year.
For the company’s mobile communications sector, operating income totaled $13.8 million for the quarter, up 76.4 percent from $7.8 million second quarter 1994.
Acquisitions fuel growth, revenues rise for Nextel
RUTHERFORD, N.J.-As a result of multiple acquisitions and increased growth of units in service, Nextel Communications Inc. reported third quarter revenues of $42.9 million, nearly double its $21.5 million in the comparable period, 1994, announced the company.
For the three-month period ended June 30, Nextel saw a net loss of $57.4 million, or 63 cents per share, compared with a loss of $110.2 million, or $1.03 per share, in third quarter last year. Nextel noted that results from its analog specialized mobile radio service business were offset by costs associated with the introduction of national digital mobile networks.
Last month the company completed transactions with McCaw Cellular Communications Inc.-now part of AT&T Wireless Services- Motorola Inc., OneComm Corp. and American Mobile Systems Inc.
“Our combined companies now provide service to approximately 821,000 units throughout the U.S.,” said Wayland Hicks, Nextel’s chief executive officer. Nextel also has a transaction pending with Dial Page Inc.
Qualcomm says revenue is increasing this year
SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. reported revenues of $99.5 million for the third quarter ended June 25, a 39 percent increase from revenues of $71.6 million for the same quarter last year.
Revenues for the nine-month period were $265.1 million, compared with $193 million for the same period in fiscal 1994.
Net income for the quarter was $7.3 million, or 13 cents per share, compared with $6.4 million, or 12 cents per share, last year. Net income for the nine-month period was $19.3 million, or 34 cents per share, compared with net income of $16.9 million, or 31 cents per share, for the same period last year.
Boston Technology posts net income of $3 million
WAKEFIELD, Mass.-For the second quarter ended June 30, Boston Technology Inc. reported net income of $3 million, or 11 cents per share, compared with $3.4 million, or 13 cents per share, in the corresponding period 1994.
“While our revenues and earnings fell short of analysts expectations for this quarter, we believe we are seeing softness specifically in North America due to our period of product transition,” said John C.W. Taylor, company president and chief executive officer. Boston Technology provides network-based enhanced services for wireless and wireline operators.
“It is significant to note that our international business continues to grow dramatically and represented 74 percent of our second quarter revenues.”
