CHARLOTTE, N.C.-Glenayre Technologies Inc. is introducing a new network standard the company says can increase paging network capacity by nearly 100 times.
The Wireless Messaging transfer protocol (WMtp) and the Wireless Messaging application programming interface will create new access to emerging services, such as two-way messaging and wireless e-mail via the Internet, the company said.
Glenayre already has licensed the new protocol to Motorola Inc. for worldwide use, and is offering other manufacturers the protocol for a fee. WMtp will be available to Glenayre customers at no cost.
WMtp is designed to coexist with the Telocator Network Paging Protocol and will offer both one-way and two-way functionality and congestion control. The interface is intended to promote rapid development of new applications for narrowband personal communications services networks, and help carriers develop wireless extensions to standard Internet applications, such as e-mail, Glenayre said.
