TAMPA, Fla.-Nokia Corp. has announced a new version of its Nokia 232 cellular phone that enables the phone to operate on a Narrowband Advanced Mobile Phone Service network.
The company also said Sears will distribute Nokia phones in its Brand Central departments throughout the United States.
Nokia said its new phone, the Nokia 232N, is an N-AMPS version featuring a 16-character display with permanent signal and battery strength indicators, four one-touch dialing keys and voice mail. The 232N also is data-ready via an optional cable that allows a user to connect to any compatible modem card, the company said.
The distribution agreement with Sears represents a recently launched national retail campaign designed to broaden the Finland-based manufacturer’s U.S. distribution. Nokia said the department store will offer the Nokia 636 and 232.
