JACKSON, Miss.-Personal considerations motivated Bernard Puckett to resign his post as chief executive officer of Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Corp. According to the company, Puckett’s resignation is effective immediately and company Chairman John Palmer will become the acting CEO.
However, Puckett plans to continue his relationship with Mtel as a consultant, said the company.
Spokeswoman Jennifer O’Mahoney noted Puckett’s commute between his home in the New York City area and Mtel’s Jackson, Miss., headquarters was no longer feasible for personal reasons.
Anne Marie Potts, Mtel senior vice president of corporate communications, declined to comment whether or not the company is seeking a new CEO. She noted, however, organizational changes will ensue.
When Palmer founded Mtel almost a decade ago, he held both chairman and CEO titles. Prior to Puckett’s announcement, Palmer’s involvement in the company chiefly focused on company strategy and vision, said O’Mahoney, rather than day-to-day activities. Palmer’s recent work also has centered on Mtel’s international business and two-way messaging in the United States-introduced last fall by Mtel’s SkyTel Corp. subsidiary.
