SAMSUNG COMMITS $35M TO B-CDMA INTERDIGITAL VENTURE

KING OF PRUSSIA, Ill.-InterDigital Communications Corp. and Siemens AG announced they have entered into an alliance with Korea-based Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.

InterDigital said its UltraPhone digital wireless local loop telecommunications products and its patents will be licensed to Samsung, including its proprietary Broadband Code Division Multiple Access air interface technology.

Samsung has agreed to make a financial contribution to InterDigital in excess of $35 million, which after application of certain Korean taxes and transaction costs is expected to net $28 million, InterDigital said.

Samsung also will aid in the development of B-CDMA technology and digital wireless access products. An initial objective is to establish B-CDMA technology as a worldwide standard for personal communications services, InterDigital said.
