Lucent Technologies Inc. introduced its Sceptre semiconductor Global System for Mobile communications hardware platform. The first generation Sceptre platform is a full rate speech platform based on three chips, plus three physical layer software modules, Lucent said. The software modules encompass the full rate speech coder, channel coder and digital receiver. The Sceptre platform supports data services, allowing manufacturers to incorporate fax/modem and other data capabilities into GSM terminal equipment, the company said. Panasonic Communications and Systems Co. said the introduction of its multichannel base station will result in about a 20 percent decrease in the per user cost of its BusinessLink personal communications system. BusinessLink adds wireless capabilities to existing private branch exchanges, Centrex and other key systems for in-building as well as outdoor communications, Panasonic said. The multichannel base station, which has four voice channels compared to the current model which has one voice channel, operates on the Interim Standard-94 cellular-based personal communications system standard. Motorola Inc.’s Wireless Data Group announced the Envoy 150 Wireless Communicator, a new addition to its family of wireless products aimed at the corporate mobile workforce. Motorola also announced commercial availability of connectivity solutions that allow Envoy communicator users wireless access to their Microsoft Mail and Lotus cc: Mail local area network-based e-mail systems, and the ability to update their desktop electronic calendars. In addition, Motorola is offering a software upgrade for users of the original Envoy communicator. Motorola said its new Envoy 150 delivers three times the available user memory of the original envoy device, providing users with increased performance and data storage. Dynamic Telecommunications Inc. has developed a smart digital signal processor-based terminal and network management software designed for the wireless local loop market. The DynaLoop is a software-based transceiver that has the ability to be wirelessly managed, allowing for testing, maintenance and reporting without sending a technician to the subscriber’s location, the company said. The transceiver runs continuous self-diagnostics and automatically generates alarms to the network management system if it detects out-of-specification events, Dynamic said. DynaLoop’s advanced features also allow it to be wirelessly upgraded. Changes such as modifications to wireless industry standards or additions to the carrier’s available services can be incorporated into DynaLoop with software modifications that are uploaded over the air, the company said.
