SUNNYVALE, Calif.-Trimble Navigation Ltd. was awarded a follow-on contract of up to $5 million over a three-year period by Glenayre Technologies to provide Global Positioning System timing technology for integration with Glenayre’s wireless communication network systems, Trimble announced.
The equipment will be used to provide synchronization of radio frequency simulcasts used in digital paging and future narrowband personal communications services, Trimble said. The companies announced their original $2 million contract in November 1994.
Glenayre integrates Trimble Acutime II GPS smart antennas into its transmitter/controller systems to synchronize data transmissions from remote transmitter sites. Using GPS “common master clock” the Acutime II enables Glenayre’s network to support new high-speed paging services, Trimble said.
The GPS’ 24 satellites each contain a highly stable atomic clock. Trimble said when tracking several GPS satellite signals, GPS receivers like the Acutime II compute and output time worldwide to within 600 nano-seconds of universal time coordinated.
