MINNEAPOLIS-ADC Telecommunications Inc. announced its first agreement to acquire a software company-Metrica Systems Ltd. The purchase will be a stock-for-stock transaction valued at about $36 million, the company said.
ADC said the acquisition is part of a newly expanded product strategy to offer software solutions as well as a broad range of hardware products to customer who need to work with strategic partners who understand all aspects of network issues.
London-based Metrica, with U.S. operations in Boston, designs management tools that allow network operators to achieve a balance between maintaining a high level of customer service and maximizing revenue from available network capacity, the company said.
“Maintaining quality information systems and advanced software is critical for our customers to remain competitive in their markets. As a result, ADC will broaden its product strategies by becoming a software systems supplier,” said Jack Reily, ADC’s vice president of business development.
Based on the International Telecommunication Union’s Telecommunications Management Network standard, the Metrica/NPR product family sits at the network management layer and is designed to help network operators improve their understanding of performance data generated by the network over a period of time, the company said.
