ATLANTA-Motorola Inc.’s Messaging, Information and Media Sector is forming a new Platform Software Division.
The Atlanta-based division is chartered to develop and deliver an open software platform, including an operating system and development tools as well as applications for the wireless industry.
“The establishment of an open, standard platform for wireless communications products is critical to the continued growth of the global wireless industry,” said Bob Growney, executive vice president of Motorola and president of MIMS. “Motorola’s Platform Software Division will enable the software development community to participate in the growth of the wireless industry via this common operating environment.”
All product components of the common platform will be available to the industry-at-large for use in paging, cellular, wireless data and two-way radio communications.
