Andrew Corp. announced it has opened a sales office in Miami to process quotations and customer inquiries for the Caribbean, Central America, Venezuela, Colombia and for U.S.-based companies that export into those regions. Customer services in all other areas of South America are handled through the Andrew office in Sorocaba, Brazil, the company said.

AccessLine Technologies Inc. announced it has licensed the first of one of its new international patents to Ericsson Telecom AB for use in deploying a universal telecommunications product that allows for personal mobility services through a single number. Users can move from one phone to another, whether the phone is wired or wireless, on a global basis and have the ability to make and receive calls and access other telecommunications services when and where they choose, AccessLine said.

Intercell Corp. announced its patent application for the company’s proprietary cellular phone antenna has been accepted for filing with the U.S. Patent Office in Washington, D.C. The company said it plans to file patent applications for the antenna technology in all major industrialized nations and in any jurisdiction where potential future markets for the technology exist. Intercell is preparing to work with cellular service providers interested in assessing the product for range, signal strength and other significant benchmarks, the company said.

Applied Cellular Technology Inc. announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire ATI Communications of Bethel Park, Pa. ATI is a specialty retailer of cellular phones and telephone interconnect equipment serving Pennsylvania, northern Virginia and Maryland markets. Applied Cellular estimates the combined sales of the two companies to exceed $40 million annually.

Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile and Cerulean Technology Inc. announced a joint marketing agreement to provide patrolling police officers with wireless access to motor vehicle and driver information. The companies said the solution operates over Bell Atlantic Nynex’s AirBridge Packet Cellular Digital Packet Data network using Cerulean’s PacketCluster Patrol software.

Moody’s Investors Service has upgraded Paging Network Inc.’s bank credit agreement to Ba2 from Ba3 and confirmed the B2 senior subordinated ratings on the company’s $200 million issue of 11.75 percent notes due 2002, $300 million issue of 8.88 percent notes due 2006 and $400 million issue of 10.13 percent notes due 2007. With the assignment of the Ba2 rating to PageNet’s new $1 billion senior secured reducing revolving credit facility, Moody’s withdrew its Ba3 ratings on PageNet’s $500 million senior secured revolving credit facility, $100 million term A loan and $150 million term B loan.
