WASHINGTON-American Mobile Satellite Corp. could receive additional L-band mobile satellite services spectrum if favorable comments are received regarding a June 18 notice of proposed rulemaking released by the Federal Communications Commission.
The commission proposed to assign AMSC the first 28 megahertz of spectrum (14 megahertz for uplink and 14 megahertz for downlink frequencies) coordinated internationally in the upper and lower portions of the L band.
AMSC, which currently holds 28 megahertz of upper L-band frequencies, competes with four other Inmarsat global systems for 66 megahertz of space in the upper and lower L bands. Comments are due Sept. 3; reply comments are due Sept. 23.
