IBM Mobile & Wireless Systems announced the IBM 2488 Model 800, the latest offering in its line of rugged, wireless handheld computing devices. IBM Mobile said the line is integrated with wireless modems from IBM for the Ardis, Cellular Digital Packet Data and RAM Mobile Data Mobitex wireless networks to provide a hardware system ready-for-use with a range of vertical-market applications. The company said the product is a tablet-sized, 486 microprocessor, pen-based portable computer and is an ideal electronic replacement for a traditional clipboard. Mobile workers can use the pen interface to complete application-specific electronic forms by writing directly on the liquid crystal display screen while moving wirelessly within a building or campus area, said IBM Mobile. The company said potential users of the device include warehouse, manufacturing, field-data collection, hospital, financial services and retail personnel. (770) 492-0373.
Allen Telecom Group’s Decibel Products Division has developed a line of indoor personal communications services antennas, called the dB Diamond series, for the U.S. market. The company said the antennas are designed to help with the rush of deploying in-building 1850-1990 MHz PCS antennas and with negotiating appearance restrictions. The six-unit line of dB Diamond antennas, model DB 790 series, span the spectrum of coverage patterns from unidirectional to bidirectional to omnidirectional, said Allen Telecom. The different models are manufactured as single or dual monopoles, single dipoles and single patches with corresponding radomes. All the antennas have a common mounting plate, which allows carriers to replace one coverage pattern with another without adding more brackets or drilling more holes. (216) 349-8400.
Lightbridge Inc. has unveiled a complete subscription fraud management line of products called Fraud Sentinel, which is comprised of three sentries PostalPro, FraudDetect and ProFile. The company said the product line will arm wireless carriers with an effective tool to curb the increasing problem of subscription fraud. The first line of defense, PostalPro, applies U.S. Postal Service standards at the point of sale to identify potentially fraudulent addresses, said Lightbridge. The company has partnered with Trans Union to provide Fraud Detect, the second level of defense that uses algorithms to determine the legitimacy of the personal data such as a social security number and driver’s license number provided by the applicant, said the company. The ProFile is an online intercarrier negative file database that uses matching logic to identify individuals who have a negative history with carriers, either from a write-off or shut-off, said the company. LGP Inc. announced its line of tower-mounted amplifiers for personal communications services. The product line features integrated filters and low noise amplifiers, which brings the noise figure down to 1.5 dB and increases the mean time between failure, said the company. Other benefits include lower weight and smaller dimensions. All the amplifiers are powered through a coaxial cable with the help of a current injector, which is connected to a power control and alarm unit (PCU), said LGP. (704) 665-9711.
