ATLANTA-BellSouth Corp. has signed agreements with Vanguard Cellular and Uplink Technologies Inc. to deploy Cellemetry. Cellemetry is BellSouth’s wireless data technology that enables alarm equipment to use the existing cellular networks to provide alarm transmission from an alarm panel to any cellular base station.
“A cut telephone line can instantly render useless any security system that doesn’t have a wireless connection to the central monitoring station,” said John Collings, chief executive officer of Uplink. “It’s an old problem that’s just been too expensive to resolve. Up until now, customers who wanted more secure systems had to pay both relatively high installation costs and monthly wireless transportation fees.”
Vanguard will provide Cellemetry service in selected markets beginning this fall.
