Comsat RSI Mark Antennas signed agreements with several contractors to supply antennas for Sprint Spectrum L.P.’s personal communications services network. The contractors include Black & Veatch and MFS Network Technologies, said Comsat.
Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile has signed intercarrier agreements with Southwestco, its wholly owned subsidiary in the Southwest, and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. to expand coverage for customers who use the companies’ wireless data services. Bell Atlantic Nynex’s agreement with Southwestco will provide Cellular Digital Packet Data services to each other’s customers in all of their markets. AT&T and Bell Atlantic Nynex’s agreement will allow the carriers to provide CDPD services to more than 63 million potential customers in 33 cellular markets across the United States.
Unwired Planet Inc. selected Data Broadcasting Corp. to provide stock market and sports information for UP’s wireless Internet access software platform designed for cellular phones and pagers. UP previously announced its UP.Link software solution initially would be available on a new generation of cellular phones using Cellular Digital Packet Data networks.
Illuminet announced it will provide Centigram’s enhanced applications to its network of small personal communications services carriers and independent telephone companies. Illuminet will provide Centigram’s enhanced applications including VoiceMemo, FaxMemo, Personal Number Service, voice activated dialing and e-mail management to the 230 North American members in Illuminet’s independent PCS consortium.
Reltec Corp. announced plans to establish a new manufacturing plant for its Reliable Electric Division in LaGrange, Ga. The Reltec plant will allow the company to meet increased demand for its advanced outdoor electronic equipment cabinets and assemblies. The plant will focus on metal fabrication and final assembly of cabinets used to house sophisticated electronic equipment for communications networks, said the company.
Pacific Bell Mobile Services announced it has activated a network operations center and technology laboratory as part of its plan to offer personal communications services. The facility in Pleasonton, Calif., consolidates comprehensive network surveillance and management systems, technical support, emergency response services and software and product equipment testing. The center will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Allen Telecom Group selected Seattle-based Arva-Hudson Inc. as its Northwest manufacturer representative for antenna products from ATG’s Antenna Specialists and Decibel Products divisions. The company’s territory will include the states of Washington, Oregon and Alaska and the western portions of Montana and Idaho.
