SAN DIEGO-NextWave Telecom Inc. has signed a non-binding letter of intent to negotiate the sale of several billion minutes of use from its personal communications services network to Cincinnati Bell Telephone Co.
“Our preliminary agreement with Cincinnati Bell marks the beginning of what we hope will become a new partnership that will result in the widespread availability of high-quality, affordable wireless voice and data services for the American consumer,” said Allen Salmasi, NextWave’s chairman and chief executive officer.
“In the past two months, NextWave has entered into airtime arrangements with a variety of resellers around the country,” he added.
NextWave won 63 PCS licenses at auction. It announced plans to operate primarily as a “carriers’ carrier,” by wholesaling PCS airtime to a broad range of wireless service providers, including long-distance companies, local exchange carriers, competitive access providers, utilities and cable TV companies.
Jack Cassidy, president of Cincinnati Bell’s wireless business unit, said his company “anticipates bundling PCS with other product offerings, such as local and long-distance services. This is part of Cincinnati Bell’s broader initiative to provide enhanced and value-added services to our customers.”
Cincinnati Bell claims more than 925,000 network access lines in service.
