ZK Celltest Inc. announced narrowband Advanced Mobile Phone Service measurement capability on the ZK-SAM/DX, a system access monitor. The company said the device interfaces with Motorola Inc.’s MicroTac dual-mode NAMPS phone and displays and collects NAMPS and enhanced AMPS call processing data. The DX can simultaneously scan 250 channels per second and report signal strength and interference information, said ZK Celltest. Several modes are available to quickly identify network problems and data is displayed in a graphical format and stored in ASCII for spreadsheet and geographical analysis. (800) 837-8235.

Hewlett-Packard Co. announced a new family of digital and analog radio frequency signal generators designed to minimize the cost of ownership for managers and engineers in manufacturing and in research development. The new HP ESG family of generators provides precise frequency and level control, versatile digital-modulation capabilities, four built-in communications standards, a choice of frequency coverage from 1 GHz to 4 GHz and an easy-to-use interface, said the company. To allow test engineers to adapt to the changing test needs, the products provide a card-cage architecture, flash-ROM firmware, 100 internal storage registers and multiple options to generate data internally or externally. The broadband analog I/Q inputs enable an RF manufacturing engineer to generate the complex modulation formats required to develop and test RF digital communications systems, said HP. Internal calibration routines keep the I/Q modulator calibrated to help ensure precisely controlled and repeatable signals. (800) 452-4844, ext. 2032.

Radio Dynamics Corp. developed a product that automatically creates frequency plans for personal communications services systems that work around interference. The Poseidon PCS to Microwave Interference Tool uses interference criteria adopted by the Telecommunications Industry Association and techniques endorsed by the Federal Communications Commission to compute interference between PCS systems and incumbent microwaves, said Radio Dynamics. It also conforms to the standard for electronic prior coordination notices developed by the National Spectrum Managers Association. The Poseidon visually displays blockage and relocation schemes for each PCS frequency, relative position and terrain cross sections and color maps of system data while making the data available in complete ASCII export files that interface with common database applications. Westinghouse Wireless Solutions Co. has released its Series 1000 Mobile Satellite Telephone Contoured Dome Antenna System, which enables users to initiate or receive satellite communications virtually anywhere in North America regardless of their location. The company also released its Series 1000 product enhancements that include a telephony card for standard telephone hook-up, a push-to-talk handset for dispatch operations and enhanced software for greater product configuration and flexibility. Westinghouse said the mobile satellite telephone system includes the high performance, low profile Contoured Dome Antenna that is available in a standard or high performance configuration. The antenna tracks the satellite even in heavily shadowed environments and is gear driven, greatly reducing the risks associated with belt-driven antennas, said Westinghouse. (410) 234-2436.

Moffet, Larson & Johnson Inc. announced the availability of a portable solution to analyze microwave or personal communications services interference at candidate base station sites. MLJ said its Microwave Scanning Receiver consists of an ultra-sensitive digital receiver and laptop computer with data collection and post-processing software. It receives signals into the base site and determines interference levels to the PCS signal generated at that site, said the company. MLJ said the receiver can discriminate signals as weak as -125 dBm across the entire broadband PCS spectrum. Measurements can be taken in all the common PCS bandwidths including Global System for Mobile communications, Code Division Multiple Access and Interim Standard 136. (703) 741-3500.
