LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-Alltel Information Services Inc. has named Jeffrey Fox president and William Cravens chairman.
Fox most recently served as senior vice president of business development and Cravens previously served as vice chairman and chief operating officer. Prior to joining Alltel, Fox worked in investment banking for 12 years and served as a vice president at Stephens Inc.
Ipsilon Networks joins Ericsson Inc. for Internet service
RICHARDSON, Texas-Ericsson Inc. and Ipsilon Networks Inc. announced an intent to jointly develop and market solutions for an Internet protocol service provision in public and private networks, which could potentially include wireless networks.
Under the terms, Ericsson said it will license Ipsilon’s IP switching software for integration in its access and switching products as part of Ericsson’s IP related network offerings.
IP technology is the foundation for the Internet/Intranet, which is used increasingly by more enterprises, universities and individuals. IP traffic has experienced an unprecedented growth during the last year and this growth is expected to accelerate with the advent of IP protocols to provide real-time services over the Internet, said Ericsson.
Calif. Microwave inks China pacts
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.-California Microwave Inc. said it has signed two contracts with China United Telecommunications Corp. to provide microwave links for Global System for Mobile communications cellular systems in the cities of Wuhan and Qingdao.
The two GSM systems are being implemented by Unicom to interconnect base stations with the central switch in each city. California Microwave said its Microwave Network Systems division will supply its 7 GHz and 13 GHz digital microwave radios, antennas and related equipment at 17 sites in each city. MNS also will provide installation supervision and training for both systems.
Agreement entered by TIA, Columbia
ARLINGTON, Va.-The Telecommunications Industry Association has signed an honorary and friendly agreement with the Chamber of Commerce of Information Systems and Telecommunications, an economic organization that gathers information about leading private organizations of telecommunications and information technology systems in Colombia.
TIA said the agreement will promote further growth and development of the United States and Colombian telecommunications industries through a variety of cooperative activities by the two associations. Both groups plan to meet often to exchange views between the members of their associations.
Cellular One adds long-distance plan to SF customers
SAN FRANCISCO-Cellular One in San Francisco, a partnership of AirTouch Communications Inc. and AT&T Wireless Services Inc., announced it is adding its own cellular long-distance service.
Cellular One said customers now can receive all of their cellular charges, local air time and long distance on one bill. The company said its long distance rates are 10 percent lower than AT&T Corp.’s standard cellular long-distance rates.
“In addition to the potential cost savings and the convenience of receiving all of their charges on one bill, customers can also have all of their billing questions answered through one customer care center,” said Rich Weiss, product marketing manager for Cellular One.
Cellular One said both new and current customers can take advantage of its long-distance service. New customers will sign up for long distance when they activate their service. Existing customers can select the new long-distance service by contacting the company’s customer care department or sending in a response card.
