InterDigital Communications Corp. announced it has signed a contract valued at $43 million to provide UltraPhone Time Division Multiple Access digital wireless loop systems to the Pakistan Telecommunications Co. Ltd. It is the single largest order of the UltraPhone to date, the company said. The order is subject to final commitment of financing through the Export-Import Bank of the United States. Deliveries are expected to start in the second half of 1997 and continue into 1998.

Metrica Inc. concluded an agreement to provide the Malaysian wireless carrier Sapura Digital’s personal communications network with the Metrica/NPR system. The system manages and stores performance statistics collected from switches, base station controllers and other network elements, and provides daily, weekly and monthly reports on a wide range of operating parameters. In addition, Metrica announced it has opened a new regional office in Kuala Lumpur which will offer technical assistance for the entire Asia-Pacific area. Metrica is part of ADC Telecommunications Inc. of Minneapolis.

Celcore Inc. announced it has completed a sale of preferred stock to UCOM International Co. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of United Communication Industry Public Co. Ltd. of Thailand. UCOM is the sole distributor for Motorola Inc. products in Thailand and the majority owner of Total Access Communications, which operates a nationwide Advanced Mobile Phone Service cellular network. With its purchase, UCOM holds a 10 percent equity in Memphis, Tenn.-based Celcore on a fully diluted basis.

Motorola Inc.’s International Cellular Infrastructure Group announced a new Advanced Network Design and Development Center in Madrid, Spain. The center will be responsible for continuing development of Motorola’s microcellular technology for mobile cellular networks, as well as providing support for Motorola’s engineering units in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia. Microcellular systems, which are designed to gain maximum coverage and capacity for analog and digital transmission systems, have been successfully trialed by network operators throughout Europe, the company said.

Geotek Technologies Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Geotek Communications Inc., announced it received the first purchase order to supply Frequency Hopping Multiple Access infrastructure and related telecommunication equipment to Anam Telecom Co. Ltd. The Korean FHMA network, which is expected to begin service in 1997, will target mobile professionals and business users that require real time voice and data communications to coordinate their business activities. Anam Telecom is a consortium of 53 companies including Anam Industrial, Hyundai Electronics and Korea Mobile Telecom, Ssang Yong Corp., Korea Express and Geotek.
