TEL AVIV, Israel-Nexus Telecommunication Systems Ltd. and Ex Machina Inc. have agreed to develop personal computer-based message entry and retrieval software to operate with the Nexus two-way paging system.

The application will allow users to send and receive text messages to and from Nexus Tag two-way pagers via Internet or modem connections. The software could be available before the end of the year.

DALLAS-General Atlantic Partners, a global investment fund specializing in the software industry, announced a $54 million minority-investment in Mobile Systems International plc.

MSI said this is the first time since the company was founded six years ago that it has taken outside financing. The company has grown from five employees in 1989 to more than 350 employees with offices around the world. MSI developed Planet software used to design, plan and operate wireless networks for mobile phones, pagers and other radio based-services, the company said.

“The GA deal will enable us to accelerate the development of our software and to look at acquisitions which assist our growth,” said John Carrington, MSI’s group managing director.

Steve Denning, managing partner of GA added, “This is one of the largest single investments GA has made. We invest in market-leading global software companies where we expect extraordinary returns and MSI fits perfectly.”

GA has invested more than $600 million in more than 45 companies since 1980, MSI said.
