ORLANDO, Fla.-GTE Telecommunication Services Inc. has teamed up with T-Netix to evaluate T-Netix’s speaker verification technology, an authorization system for subscribers roaming outside their home calling area. The technology allows a digitized sample of a person’s voice to be stored for authentication.
“Not only is speaker verification technology effective in confirming a caller’s identity, but since saying a short password is all that’s required, it’s easy for consumers to use,” said Rolando Espinosa, GTE’s assistant vice president and general manager.

SEATTLE-Wireless carriers and service providers may be left exposed to potential lawsuits as they implement the Federal Communications Commission’s mandate to provide E911 services to the public safety community and customers. A study conducted by Xypoint Corp. concluded that 35 states have limited or no protection in emergency services statutes for carriers.
“As the wireless E911 issue shifts to the state level, two issues will drive carriers’ focus-cost recovery and indemnification,” said Reuven M. Carlyle, Xypoint’s vice president of government affairs.
