SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-GooItech L.P. has introduced its wireless automatic teller machine solution, which replaces phone line links to ATMs with a digital airlink, resulting in both lower costs and improved transmission speeds, the company said.
The new ATM machines were recently tested on the Alton Bell riverboat near St. Louis.
The machines have the potential to be used on cruise ships, at sporting events and trade shows, or any location where landline-based ATMs are not feasible.
Data for the ATMs are sent over the Cellular Digital Packet Data network to a land-based gateway where the data is converted to a financial institution’s protocol.
GooItech has been working with companies including Ameritech for CDPD airlinks.
Andrew Solomon, Goo-Itech’s vice president and general manager, said the solution is compatible with most newer model ATMs.
“It meets the bank’s data requirements and calls for no changes to the front or back end,” he said. “It’s virtually plug and play.”
