FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.-The Communities on Phone Patrol (COPP) program donated 40 phones to 10 Fort Lauderdale, Fla., neighborhoods as part of its goal to distribute 50,000 cellular phones to community policing organizations in high crime areas. COPP was formed in May by the Community Policing Consortium and the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association.
AT&T Wireless Services Inc. donated the phones, which are preprogrammed to call 911 and the police department.
