LAS VEGAS-Pacific Bell Mobile Services said it will launch its Global System for Mobile communications personal communications services network next month in Las Vegas.
Pacific Bell said the network will feature an enhanced full-rate vocoder, which it says provides sound quality equivalent to landline by analyzing quality more frequently and at a high rate of speed. Pacific Bell launched a similar system in November in San Diego.
Initially, the company will offer an L.M. Ericsson phone in 60 retail stores for a suggested price of $150. It will include a phone, travel adapter, battery and antenna. Later this year, the company plans to introduce different vendor phones and accessories.
