LONDON-Cable & Wireless plc said it formed a new business unit, Carrier Services, to handle the marketing its worldwide network to other carriers and operators for wholesale delivery of international telecommunications traffic.
The company said it is experiencing increasing demand from second tier carriers, new service providers and cellular operators. These operators carry international traffic from their customers, but are not able to build their own international networks.
Cable & Wireless has direct links to more than 200 international destinations and has major switching nodes in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and Australia.
“Wholesale traffic is the fastest growing segment of the market and represents a very exciting opportunity for Cable & Wireless to carry a significantly greater share of the world’s international traffic,” said David Lawrence, managing director of the new unit.
