HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.-Ameritech Cellular and Paging announced a recycling effort for nickel cadmium batteries called Battery Drop Stop. Cellular users can drop off used cellular batteries at Ameritech Cellular Centers and authorized dealers, the company said.
The batteries will be shipped to a recycling facility in Pennsylvania, which uses a High Temperature Metal Recovery process to recycle the batteries. The process yields recycled nickel to make stainless steel and recycled cadmium to make new batteries.
Ameritech is working closely with the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corp., which is ensuring the program meets federal and state environmental regulations.
