ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group signed an agreement with Alcatel Telecom that allows the companies to distribute each other’s telecommunications equipment including Code Division Multiple Access cellular and fixed access radio systems, mobile switching centers and transmission solutions.
The agreement gives Alcatel access to Motorola’s CDMA cellular radio systems. Alcatel will provide Motorola with its mobile switching centers and transmission solutions in return. Alcatel has agreed to support the Interim Standard-634 open interface for CDMA on its A1000 S12 switches.
In addition, Alcatel will cooperate with Motorola in supplying its CDMA wireless local loop-based networks by incorporating a V5.2 open interface on its A1000 E10 and S12 switching systems. This will make Motorola WiLL equipment compatible with the world’s largest installed base of digital switching equipment, the companies said.
