ITASCA, Ill.-Shieldmate Robotics Inc. has denied allegations that it is infringing on a Motorola Inc. trademark by producing cellular phone housings for Qualcomm Inc.
Motorola filed a lawsuit in federal court against Qualcomm and Shieldmate. The company charged the manufacturer of cellular phone housing components with trade dress infringement and alleges that Shieldmate breached a confidentiality agreement with Motorola in producing the plastic housings for Qualcomm’s Q phone.
“We simply manufacture the housings based on the designs of our clients, in this case Motorola and Qualcomm,” said Shieldmate President Steve Matecki.
“We don’t actually design them. But here we find ourselves embroiled in a dispute between these two big companies, both of which have been very good customers of ours … At no time in the history of this company have we passed along the design secrets of one client to another.”
