RAM-BASED SERVICE DEVELOPED FOR N.J.

NEW YORK-The State of New Jersey awarded a contract to Paradigm4 Inc. to develop a Parking Authority Ticketing System for parking enforcement officers to access on-line warrant information via wireless handheld computers. The system uses RAM USA Mobile Data L.P.’s packet radio network.

Paradigm4 said it began working with the state to develop the PATS system in June 1996, and the first deployment recently was completed in Fort Lee, N.J.

The company said it will enable two more sites in New Brunswick and Camden, N.J., by next month. When completed at the end of this year, the system will include 34 parking authorities throughout New Jersey.

“We were presented with a challenge to customize a PATS system for the State of New Jersey that went beyond the traditional `store and forward’ method of automating ticket issuance by providing parking enforcement officers the ability to transmit and utilize critical data for immediate use in enforcement operations,” said John Bay, chief executive officer of Paradigm4. “The PATS system will provide dramatic improvements in the way the state handles the ticketing process. The success of PATS translates into bottom-line savings for the state and helps increase productivity, efficiency and safety in the field.”

The system makes use of handheld computers from Symbol Technologies, portable printers from Radix, local parking authority personal computers and a centralized communications gateway server in Trenton, N.J.
