STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson won two contracts to expand Advanced Mobile Phone Service analog cellular networks in Brazil.
The first contract is with Telpe from the state of Pernambuco, and the second contract is with Telesp from the state of Sao Paulo. Both Telpe and Telesp belong to the holding company Telebras, an operator currently under the control of the Brazilian government.
Ericsson said it will supply its new dual-mode equipment, which allows a migration to digital service based on Time Division Multiple Access technology. Ericsson values the contract with Telpe at $80 million and the contract with Telesp at $70 million.
