NEXTEL MAKES DEAL FOR MOTOROLA IDEN

MCLEAN, Va.-Nextel Communications Inc. reached an agreement with Motorola Inc. on conditions for Nextel to use Motorola’s integrated Digital Enhanced Network equipment in its U.S. network.

Nextel said the equipment also will be used in networks in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and the Philippines, which are being constructed and operated by affiliates of Nextel’s wholly owned subsidiary, McCaw International Ltd.

The agreement outlines domestic and international iDEN infrastructure and handset pricing terms and arrangements relating to potential domestic rebates on subscriber units based on volume.

The companies also announced Motorola will provide Nextel up to $450 million in additional equipment financing in the United States. The financing is subject to execution of a definitive agreement and other approvals, the company said.
