TAMPA, Fla.-GTE Mobilnet Inc. commercially launched digital cellular service in the Tampa Bay, Fla., area, marking the company’s fifth digital wireless deployment nationwide.
The network uses Code Division Multiple Access technology, which offers features including caller ID, message waiting indicator, numeric paging, extended battery life, increased privacy and improved protection from cloning, the company said.
Dual-mode phones, which can switch between digital and analog networks, will be available to all GTE Mobilnet customer’s in Tampa Bay.
GTE’s other digital wireless markets include San Francisco and San Jose, Calif., Austin, Texas, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Seattle, Wash.
