Motorola Inc. has agreed to license to Racal Communications Inc. the digital technology for APCO Project 25 public safety products.
Rockville, Md.-based Racal is the seventh company to license the technology from Motorola’s Land Mobile Products Sector.
Project 25 is the digital two-way radio standard adopted by the industry, designed to enable public safety networks using different equipment to communicate with each other. The standard was created originally by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-International Inc.
Racal expects its initial product will be a compact, rugged VHF portable built to the standard of a military product. Racal’s Project 25 products will be interoperable with other Project 25 equipment. Racal is a subsidiary of Racal Electronics plc of the United Kingdom.
