LONDON-Europe reached 7.5 million land mobile radio subscribers last year, of which 7 million used private mobile radio and 500,000 used public access mobile radio, according to a report issued by The Strategis Group.
Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and Italy accounted for two-thirds of Europe’s PMR user base, while the PAMR segment was dominated by Germany, the United Kingdom and France.
The report, European PMR/PAMR Markets: 1997, predicts 1997 will be remembered as the year when Trans European Trunked Radio Access products finally appeared in the European LMR marketplace. TETRA will be implemented gradually to deal with capacity restraints in LMR networks, the report said. The total number of LMR users will grow to 11 million subscribers by 2002, Strategis predicted.
A shift toward PAMR will occur as more public operators are licensed and as more companies outsource their mobile communications requirements.
