LISLE, Ill.-A new product to be introduced next month could herald the dawn of completely echo-free communications between digital wireless users and wireline subscribers.
Telcom manufacturer Tellabs will unveil Acoustic Coupling Elimination (ACE), the newest offering in the company’s line of Clearcall call-quality enhancement products, at SuperComm ’97 in New Orleans June 3-5.
Clearcall ACE is designed to provide wireless networks with a high-performance, cost-effective solution for treating acoustic echo originating from digital mobile phones. The new product is reported to completely eliminate any remaining echo signals that the wireless phone’s integral echo control cannot remove, ensuring wireline subscribers receive echo-free service when communicating with digital wireless users.
“This new development brings digital wireless networks one step closer to wireline quality,” said Jim Grzyb, marketing director of the Tellabs Network Access Systems Division. “With ACE, both landline and wireless subscribers will be able to enjoy service completely free of annoying echo.”
Traditional acoustic echo-elimination methods have required back-to-back echo canceller systems, one to treat hybrid echo and the second to treat acoustic echo. “Only one ACE-equipped echo canceller is required per E1/T1 facility to provide bi-directional echo control,” Grzyb said. “By eliminating the secondary echo canceller module, ACE provides a significant reduction in equipment costs. At the same time, ACE decreases power usage, maintenance and floor space.”
