Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group and Coral Systems Inc. reached an agreement to allow Motorola to offer its customers Coral Systems’ FraudBuster fraud management system as part of its IN2 Solution Center.
FraudBuster is designed to detect and manage fraud in multiple wireless systems, said Motorola. The system targets cloned phones and subscription fraud in Advanced Mobile Phone Service, Code Division Multiple Access and Global System for Mobile communications networks.
FraudBuster develops personalized customer profiles based on a subscriber’s typical calling patterns. The system then can identify suspicious use and alert the carrier’s fraud investigation team.
The FraudBuster system is presented to potential clients at Motorola’s IN2 Solution Center where they have the opportunity to see a demonstration of the system. Interested clients place a purchase order with Motorola.
John Fraser, Coral’s newly appointed president, said the company relies heavily on partnerships like this one with Motorola. Coral also markets the product worldwide through a direct sales force. About two-thirds of Coral’s 1996 revenues resulted from partnerships, said Fraser. The balance of revenues came from direct sales, mainly to small wireless providers that are more comfortable dealing directly with the company.
Fraser said the agreement fits in with the company’s priorities for 1997, which include focusing on developing relationships with key partners, expanding post-sale services and increasing international business. “Fraud solutions are in great demand outside of America,” he said.
