MILAN-Omnitel Pronto Italia, a private Global System for Mobile communications operator in Italy, introduced a rechargeable GSM Subscriber Identity Module card that will allow users to make international calls from Italy and in foreign countries, and does not have a recharge fee.
The card, called Valore Ricaricabile, has no monthly subscription fee or government tax and does not require a down payment on calls. The card is ideal for business people trying to control mobile phone costs, said the company.
Omnitel also introduced a series of Internet-based products and services as well as new promotional offers for consumers and new tariff plans for business users.
The company’s Internet-based interactive services are accessible by customers through the company’s Web site and provide Infoconto, a service that enables customers to check their cellular phone bills and verify amounts and payment status of previous bills.
Omnitel customers also can use their cellular phones to send e-mail messages to any Internet-based address or send faxes to a fax machine, said the company.
New promotional pricing will be available starting Jan. 1, the date set by the European Union for liberalization of all voice-based telecommunication services. Omnitel said it plans to offer customers international calling at savings of between 30 percent and 50 percent compared with current rates.
The company also plans to offer several new tariff plans. Valore 25 and Valore 50 target business users, have one calling tariff all day and offer discounts on calls, said Omnitel.
