Nokia Corp. and MobileOne of Singapore signed an agreement to expand MobileOne’s Global System for Mobile communications network capacity to accommodate about 200,000 customers. Nokia values the arrangement at more than $30 million. Nokia agreed to supply its high-capacity DX200 mobile switching equipment, tropicalized outdoor base stations, macro and indoor base stations and several large capacity base station controllers. The contract also includes a comprehensive Nokia test-bed, which comprises all the network elements used in the MobileOne network, said the companies.

AML Communications Inc. announced an original equipment manufacturer for the Brazilian wireless communications market has given it a $2.6 million purchase order for cellular multicarrier power amplifiers. The order is the largest in the company’s history, said Jacob Inbar, AML chairman and chief executive officer. Shipments are expected to begin this month and last through the end of March, said the company.

Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group announced several contracts in India to expand Global System for Mobile communications networks there. The contracts include one with Sterling Cellular Ltd. for expansion in Delhi, another with BPL Mobile Communications Ltd. for work in Mumbai, and a third with Usha Martin Telekom Ltd. to expand in Calcutta. The combined value of the contracts totals about $35 million, said Motorola. The network expansions will add capacity for a combined total of 325,000 additional subscribers, the company said.

Millicom International Cellular subsidiary Telefonica Celular de Bolivia SA awarded Northern Telecom Ltd. a supply agreement valued at $64 million to build and operate a fixed cellular network using advanced Proximity wireless technology. The Bolivian network is scheduled to be implemented during the next three years and is expected to serve some 100,000 subscribers in La Paz, the country’s capital and main business center, as well as El Alto.

Omnipoint Communications Services Inc. said it signed up its 25th overseas roaming partner, Telecom Italia in Italy. Omnipoint customers now can use their wireless service and features-voice mail, Internet short e-mail, paging, call waiting, call forwarding, caller ID and two-way data services-from Milano to Palermo, said Omnipoint. In North America, members of the GSM Alliance, including Omnipoint, operate their networks at 1900 MHz. Global System for Mobile communications carriers in Italy and many other countries operate at 900 MHz, but their customers can roam via subscriber identity module card technology.
