STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson announced plans to expand its existing production plant in Brazil to manufacture base stations for analog and digital Advanced Mobile Phone Service networks.
The $11 million investment is for a new 5,000-square-meter plant on the company’s existing Sao Jose dos Campos site, which is expected to fulfill most of its base station orders in the country. Ericsson cites the expected growth of the Brazilian market from 2.9 million users to 8.2 million users by the end of next year since B-block wireless licenses were recently issued.
The plant is scheduled to be completed by January.
