ENCINITAS, Calif.-CommQuest Technologies Inc. said it signed a product development agreement with Niigata Seimitsu, a telecom manufacturing company in Japan.
Under the agreement, Niigata will use CommQuest’s Global System for Mobile communications-based chipset to build handsets to distribute in southeast Asia and China by the middle of next year. The chipset will be in bare silicon form so Niigata can build a GSM module using Chip-On-Board and flip-chip technology, which is expected to reduce handset size and cost, CommQuest said. Niigata also will use the chipsets to build modules to sell to other GSM manufacturers.
CommQuest specializes in developing total system solution chipsets for various digital communications applications based on its Communication Application Specific Processor architecture, a 1-bit analog/digital conversion technique and library of logic elements called CommSyntax.
