ATLANTA-BellSouth Corp., the Fisher Pierce Division of Pacific Scientific Co. and Florida Power Corp. jointly announced an agreement to begin testing BellSouth’s Cellemetry Data Service and BellSouth Cellular Corp.’s cellular networks for remote monitoring of electric power delivery distribution systems.
Florida Power will monitor electric distribution system performance over a cellular network using Fisher Pierce’s fault detection sensors, according to the announcement, and messages will be transmitted over BellSouth’s network in Orlando, Fla.
Additionally, BellSouth announced that Frontier Cellular is carrying the Cellemetry data service. The addition bridges the Cellemetry service area between the United States and Canada.
